The best time (in my opinion) to shoot fall colors isn’t on a bright sunny day – it’s on a gloomy damp day. The even lighting, dramatic skies, and lack of shadows makes the color of the leaves explode off the page. This picture was captured during a lunchtime stroll along the Mississippi River just north of downtown Minneapolis. It was taken from the iron railway bridge connecting Nicollet Island with Boom Island. It uses a faux-HDR process that makes the sky more dramatic and gives a nice vivid color to the leaves.
